RAP hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Happy Hour on May 1st to show our gratitude to the volunteers who facilitated workshops for our social justice programs this spring. RAP staff welcomed this semester’s volunteers to O’Nieal’s Restaurant and Bar to celebrate the commitment and contribution our volunteers made to RAP’s programs and to youth in New York City.
Volunteers facilitate sessions where they teach teens about social justice issues, such as reproductive rights, dating violence, and more. Through an exciting in-class curriculum focused on legal rights, civic engagement, community mapping, and leadership development, young New Yorkers design and launch a project aimed at solving a real-world problem in their communities. Previous projects have included meeting with city policy leaders and conducting youth-rights workshops for other teens. The classes are held in schools and community centers in coordination with RAP’s program partners.
We are so appreciative of the dedication of our volunteers and we’re happy to be able to spend an evening celebrating them!
