RAP celebrated World Social Justice Day on Feb. 20 with a well-attended wine and cheese friendraiser bringing together over 40 friends, supporters and youth advocates. Attendees watched screenings of three short films on the work RAP does via our Teen Fatherhood Initiative and GO Girls program.
We presented two brief videos highlighting the challenges faced by young dads and how improving their educational and economic conditions can make them a stable force in the lives of their children. A third video, produced by one of our GO Girls programs in Brooklyn, provided a youth perspective on the high pregnancy rate among black and Latino youth in East New York.
The 8-minute video, Information Overload, won applause for GO Girls facilitators Jill Coen and Lexi Todd and the GO Girls participants interviewed, and sparked animated conversations after the screening.
This event was also a great opportunity for non-profit professionals to forge new friendships and reconnect with former colleagues. We would like to say thanks also to North Star Fund for hosting us in their beautiful office on 8th Avenue, and to the Catalog for Giving, Future of Giving, for their support and participation! Keep an eye out for future event announcements. We hope to see you at one soon!
