Youth Legal Education and Self-Advocacy Workshops

RAP conducts workshops for youth, ages 13-21, focused on specific legal and social issues that arise in their lives. The workshops are designed to help young people become effective self-advocates for the resources they need to succeed in school, the workplace, and their personal lives. Each workshop contains two core components: (1) Knowledge-building and (2) Self-advocacy skill training.

Our workshops include:

  • Access to a College Education (ACE) is for youth who are interested in attending a vocational or college program after high school.
  • Getting it Right! helps teen fathers access the legal and community resources they need in order to be successful parents.
  • The Power of Self-Advocacy is designed to introduce youth to the concept of self-advocacy within the context of race, gender, and class.
  • Community Mapping is an action research workshop that gives youth an opportunity to become policy experts about an issue in their community.

Workshops are 3 hours long and can be presented as one session or broken into multiple shorter sessions.

A comprehensive Facilitator's Guide is also available for each workshop, for organizations interested in conducting the workshops on their own. The Guide includes a step-by-step workshop curriculum, all Instructor and Student Hand Outs, and all Supplementary materials needed to conduct the workshops. RAP is available to provide support and technical assistance as needed. [Price: $40]

If you are interested in having RAP conduct a workshop at your school or organization, or you would like to order a Program Guide please contact us at info@resiliencelaw.org.
