Dear RAP Community,
This Tuesday night, we watched Donald Trump become the President Elect of the United States. Many of us woke up disappointed, and questioning what is coming down the road in the next four years.
We are all part of this community because we believe in progress, inclusion, equality, and justice. So this may feel like a heartbreaking conclusion to a presidential campaign filled with hateful and divisive rhetoric.
I don’t expect this message to soothe any anger or sadness that you may be feeling. But I did want to take a moment to reach out and connect with you personally… To remind you that we are all in this together. Each in our own way, we care about – and work towards – making the world a better place. And by being part of Team RAP, please know that you are part of something that is bigger than our defeat last night. You are part of a larger community that works in partnership with other people and organizations and communities and young people throughout the State to build a movement for a fairer and most just society.
Our work together may seem a bit harder today. But I promise you – as MLK Jr. paraphrased: The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Our work together matters, and it will matter even more in the coming months and years as we make the tough journey towards healing wounds and fulfilling the promise of more perfect union.
